The massively clueless Dragon (+ neutral as dragon player) cards tier list.

9 posts in this topic

So I’ve been playing Dragon consistently since Darkness Evolved and I thought ‘bout giving a clue to what’s up in Dragoncraft cards.

This tier list is not really serious nor being from a competitive player but I’m kinda confident it should give some hints.

Three key points:

-          Cards are reviewed as if it were in their most relevant deck. For example, Imperial Dragoon will be rated as if it was in a Discard deck.

-          Cards are reviewed independently from their most relevant deck performance. You’ll not see much god tier cards in an underperforming deck, but it might happen.

-          Neutral cards are rated from a dragoncraft player point of view despite previous points.

Also, I historically already did a legendary tier list, and it might have changed a bit. Due to lazyness, the card names will be partly used to identify card (mostly character name or most relevant information to identify). Lastly, you’ll notice several 2/2 followers in meh tier, as I consider every single 2/2 for 2 as an okay play but could do better.

Tiers are:

-          Archdragon/Legend : Significantly over average performing cards, staples or niche powerhouses

-          Dragon/Veteran : Slightly over average performing cards or niche strong cards

-          Hatchling/Knight : Average (or slightly under) performing cards

-          Worshipper/Recruit : Under average performing cards or hard to use niche cards

-          Cesspit : Heavily underperforming cards, card which never fitted any deck, has too many better alternative or niche cards working once in a blue moon

-          Egg/Hermit : I never played the card but acknowledge that it could be tried in a suitable deck

I skimmed the Dragon list. Mostly agreed. Think Frenzied and Salamander should be higher. Think Forte should be lower (God forgive me).

I did hesitated for both. But salamander only feel godlike in aggro meta and still remains very far from Themis. Frienzed could be objectively an archdragon indeed. I just find him to be a tad slow, Israfi like.

I disagree for Forte and is still convinced she's the best SV storm as the easiest to use for its damages and the instant win she mean if opponent lacks removal. In aggro she's a wreck.

Fire Lizard is more about global result I had with it that the power it seems to hold. Fire Lizard is my favorite 2pp follower to play whenever the meta is about aggro, Shadow or Forest. Even against defensive decks such as Shift you can just play it and let it eat a removal, because it has agressive statline.

Filene is good, but sluggish no matter how you'll put it. She's just worst in Aggro/Forest/Shadow(craft)verse because you pay 4 pp to do what you could have done for 2. Or you need an evo point. Sure Filene is a magnificient end game card, she counter Atomy, but she comes nowhere near Fire Lizard to survive going second against blood, forest and sword. She's such a bad tempo play without evolve I prefered to keep Siegfried in my aggro, which is just 3/3 Filene for that particular deck.

The only thing which make me hesitate to rate her higher is how important and good she is in a Lindworm decks, which has the property to make your evo poiny inexpensives to use. She might be archdragon here, yea. But that would mean the deck has so many excellent cards... but not that many play it (well to me it's much better than ramp). But going there I should also add Somniferous which is an equally good and important lindworm card.

Fair enough, she does carry aggro Dragon. Was mostly looking at a Ramp context, but I agree with you there.

I think Grimnir and Urd should be rated higher.  Grimnir obviously was much better pre nerf, but in dragon even after was still an amazing board clear. And Urd is just a classic combo card with Forte and worked will with Aiela.  Just my two cents.

I also concur with the Filene sentiments.  She is a swiss army knife.  I have three for oned with her and don't think she is terrible just playing her on two.  The only two drop that is clearly better than her is Snow White.  That three toughness is no joke.  She trades down well, and trades up as well.

Fair nuff for Urd and Filene (I'd also put Belenus above her tho), but sorry I crushed too many Ramp Dragon player using it to support Grimnir as over average card. See the 2/3 Ward is nothing by the turn you play it. As quicker AOE Salamander, Force of the dragonewt and conflagration are better because cheaper, you're not locked to 10 pp. As slow AOE Frenzied/Bahamut are infinitely better because of the premium body and board wipe no matter defense.

Well, sure you can just have 2/3 Ward for 3 pp. And by Unlimited standard this is not fine, at all.

I actually used Grimnir as my win con back in Tempest (obviously pre nerf) because I found he was a far better board clear against shadow and storm decks than Bahamut was.  Bahamut as powerful as he is, much like Grimnir is a turn loss, and also with Eachtar being so prevalent, it very often couldn't attack face the next turn.  Grimnir could, and since he was a ward, made it so that even against other classes, or the mirror, you had an iota of protection.  So I'll agree to disagree.

and we'll have to disagree with Belenus.  Belenus is solid, but not as good at all.  They are designed differently.  Belenus is generally good, but Filene can trade with two of them easily by herself.  Belenus is good against a lot of other two drops, but even classically, shadow prefered the sac creature 1/2 instead when both were in the format.  Belenus is decent, but not the same.
